Genesis and Figures of Modern Scientific Rationality

A historical-theoretical analysis of the emergence of modern scientific rationality from its roots in philosophical rationality. The course focuses on the philosophy of nature in the 17th-century European context, examining the distinctive features of scientific rationality — autonomy, methodology, and its relations with metaphysics and other domains of knowledge. Central figures include Galileo, Descartes, Newton and Leibniz.

As Director of the Doctoral School at the Sophia University Institute, I supervise doctoral students and early-career researchers working at the intersection of physics and philosophy. My mentoring combines sustained attention to technical rigour in the formalism with a training in explicit conceptual argumentation — the same orientation that structures the research programme.

I welcome inquiries from prospective doctoral candidates working in the philosophy of quantum mechanics, quantum gravity, or the metaphysics of physics more broadly. Candidates should have some formal training in physics, mathematics or analytic philosophy.
